The teaching staff are a wonderful mix of comparatively young and older experienced teachers. They consist of a principal that takes on administration and class teaching duties, three dedicated classroom teachers and five equally dedicated teacher aides who are a valued and a very important part of the delivery of our educational programs. There is an office administrator, a guidance officer who attends our school one day a week, a casual grounds person and two cleaners.
Mount Garnet State School has a strong student leadership commitment where students are nominated by their peers to become school captains, vice captains, sports captains and class captains. These students form our Student Council which meets regularly to decide on events to fundraise money for our school, events to support other organisations, discuss school issues and to help with student opinions when purchasing certain school equipment.
A typical school day at Mount Garnet State School looks like this:
8.45am is when school starts for the day.
First break is at 10.45am where students play then go to their classrooms at 11.15am to eat and listen to a story.
11.30am is when the middle session starts.
Second break starts at 1.00pm where the students eat at the tuckshop area, then at 1.15pm go out to play.
1.30pm is the final session of the day.
School finishes at 2.45pm.
On Monday the school starts
the day with a parade. This enables us to have a quick rundown on what has
happened during the week, award student’s behaviour, recognise their
achievements and selected classes perform for the school. We like to remind students
about the school’s expectations and schedule for the following week. We also
like to acknowledge and celebrate
the students and teachers birthdays that has just passed or coming up before
the next parade.
