Mount Garnet State School is located in the Tablelands/Johnstone district and services the communities of Mount Garnet, Battle Creek, Innot Hot Springs and Silver Valley. It is situated on the south-western edge of the Atherton Tablelands on the Kennedy Highway just under 50 km from Ravenshoe, 90 km from Atherton and 195 km south west of Cairns. Mount Garnet is a small country town of approximately 300 people.
At Mount Garnet State School, every moment of every day counts, so attendance is very important. This is why we started using the program ’95 To Thrive’. Statistics have proven that students who attend school regularly have a better success rate.
Students are taught that attending school is very important and mark on a personal chart all the days that they attend school in green and absent days in red. The students aim to colour their charts with green 95% or more each term. Students and their families are recognised at the end of each term during a special parade.
The school is in the beginning phases of developing a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support system.
